Abreu Wins IBF Youth Title
By Robert Coster
In a fight held at the Carlos (Teo) Cruz Coliseum on Sunday night in Santo Domingo, Dominican prospect Juan Carlos Abreu (11-0, 10 KOs) won the IBF jr welterweight Youth title with a third round knockout victory over John Nater (9-3, 8 KOs) of Puerto Rico.
Abreu decked Nater at the end of the first round, dominated the second round and in the third stanza sent his opponent crashing to the mat with a flurry of unanswered punches. Referee Robert Ramirez Jr put an end to the fight as it was apparent that the prone Nater would not get up. It was an impressive display of power and speed by Abreu who might be invading the USA boxing scene very soon.
